hard start

Hopefully this is in the right thread, if not please feel free to move it. Anyhow to the question, lately the truck seems like its turning over more than usual to start. Then last saturday I ran out of town about twenty miles and shut truck down for about 30min. When I tried to start it, it didn't start on the first try. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What truck? Fill in your signature in user profile.

Likely your lift pump. Drain and remove the fuel filter cover then bump your key to check for flow (2 people).

Be glad to help, but first it would help us if you could fill out your signature with what year, model, miles, mods, etc. all that good stuff. Just click on User CP on the top left, and then you will see Edit Signature on the left.

Welcome to DTR

Also fuel filter itself would be a good thing to check

The settings for the site are reduced to only list it once per thread. Saves space and improves performance.

more then likely you have an injector starting to go bad allowing fuel to return to the tank and not allowing rail pressure to build up. highly doubt its the lift pump since they cause it not to run, not hard to start

This has happened to me a few times. Truck will be 4 years old in June and has 34k miles on it. It sets for 4-6 weeks at at time sometimes since it used solely to tow our fiver RV. Yet, it always starts right up after that time. Mine will more likely do what you are describing after it has been run then shut down a few hours. I have never seen any smoke and I change the fuel filters every 6 months. In fact, it was just changed last week. All the injectors were replaced under warratny at about the 15k mark. I would have to say my situation is more of a longer crank, then it turns over and immediately dies. I will be watching this thread. Thanks. pcm

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, what I am worried about it is the longer cranking times. As far as it not starting, that has happened just once so far. Once it is started it runs just fine. I will change the filter tonight to see if that helps at all. Thanks again.
