Had injector issue, oil diluted with diesel any damage?
Had injector issue, oil diluted with diesel any damage?
OK guys, I know many of us have read the horror stories of an injector sticking and filling the oil pan with diesel fuel. Here is one more...
I was wanting to send out my injectors to have them checked and Flux nozzles put on, but I couldn't have the truck down, so I decided to buy a slightly used set of injectors from someone on this forum (not going to mention names until he decides what he is going to do for me).
I had them installed I drove truck to work next day (10 mi round trip probably idled for 10 mins in morning and then again before I left work). Truck seemed to have a little less power. After work I went out to dinner (about 10 mi round trip). On the way home stopped at fuel station b/c gauge was dropping kinda quickly put fuel in it (idled 10 mins prob or less at fuel station). Truck started having a miss to it on way home from fuel station and a haze at idle. Once home I shut truck off and (had a feeling) checked dipstick way overfull.
Didn't drive truck at all after that, drained oil out of crankcase (got about 5-6 GALLONS!!!! compared to the normal 3 ). Put original injectors back in and new oil change. Truck runs perfect, no noises, misses or anything, and good oil pressure and oil level staying put. My question is do you think I hurt anything (bearings etc) in the engine running it a total of about 20-30 mi and run time of about 40-50 mins total, and the oil being THAT diluted with diesel?
Thanks in advance...

Man that is rough. Probably not good for your truck, but that type of damage could take a while to show. Maybe your engine would have lasted 400k miles, and now it will only go 300k. Maybe it will blow up in 5k, (probably not).
My 04.5 lost 2 injectors 60 or so days apart. First one I noticed and poer dealers order/suggestion drove it to the dealer about 15 miles. Second one cane unawares while on I-75 coming thru Corbin Ky. Both times major fuel wah down of oil to the point that I appeared to loose oil pressure at idle. After each repair oil pressure seemed to return to normal but will never know if it damaged engine or not as I couldn't trust truck anymore so traded it for for a loss on the 07 5.9 I now have and haven't regretted one minute. Per Cummins Dodge should pull pan and inspect at least the bearings as the diesel fuel isn't a very good lubricant for the engine but per them just replacing the injector and sending you down the road isn't a good repair either and that's all Dodge will do. That's why I traded trucks.
You should be fine. It dosen't sound like you went far. An install issue or cracked body will cause the crankcase to fill with diesel. Ah, you got used injectors???? I would never do that unless I was planning to send them right out for repair. You just never know.
