Grinding noise coming from the rear of the truck

I was leaving work last night when I started hearing a faint rubbing noise. I pulled over and looked under the truck, kicked the tires to see if I had a flat.

I drove down the road at 75 mph and the noise got louder and louder. I heard this chrunching or grinding noise that sounded like it was coming from the rear of the truck. The transmission shifts okay, the transfer case shifts ok so I creeped down the side of the road and the grinding noise got louder.

I stopped and had a wrecker pick it up. Any ideas? The truck is stock and has 33,000 miles on it. Is their a problem with the rear ends going bad on the Dodge 3500 rams? I sometimes pull a 9000 pound trailer. Any ideas ?

Three things come to mind:

Your differential gears need some attention,

your breaks are grinding or

your bearings are shot.

Just my 02.

Another point. At 33K, is your warranty still in affect? IF so, it's someone elses issue to figure out.

The good news is the truck is in warranty.I had the truck towed to the dealership last night. They are busy but the service writer drove it in the parking lot.The grinding noise sounds worse at low speeds 5mph. It grinds less in reverse.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Sounds like something is just about broke. Good luck.

The pinoin gear bearing on the front differentail failed. Dodge replaced it for free since the truck is under warranty. I also had a south bend clutch installed
