Greasing drive shaft??

I'm overdo on greasing the drive shaft on my 03, but I don't have a grease gun.

What type sould I buy? there are so many types out there. Do I need a flexible hose that I see on some or is a straight hard shaft OK?

Plus what grease do I use? some come with grease cartridges attached already... I assume with a universal grease.

One last question, how many fittings are there on an 03 short bed auto?

Thanks

Ron W.

check the owners manual, it says what type of grease to use.
for personal use, a cheap hand pump with a flexable hose should do fine. the flex hose is more maneuveable.

Have you checked to see if there are any zerks to grease on the driveshaft?

AFAIK, the only places to grease on our trucks are the tie rod ends (4x4's only).

Yep he's right, unless you have changed out u-joints there are none to grease. I just replaced my first due to the one right after my carrier bearing ceasing up, ceated one heck of a vib 0-20 mph. The stock u-joint was "powdered" where the needle bearings were.

I took a look, everyone is right there are no zerk fittings....great, one less thing on my to-do list, but I'm sure my wife will find something to put in it's place.

I do believe the 05's have a greesable front u joint, on the double CV joint due to the full time engaugement of the front axle. I do know it's going to a be a pain in the mother to get to cause it's tiny little axcess area. So I'm going to make something up so I can get to it eayier. Anybody else grease them on the newer 3rd gens with the American Axle Manufacturing Axles. Excuse the spelling still a little sick, and light headed.

Question

This is somewhat related....but I am replacing my '92 Cummins with a '04.
I have spare joints for the '92 and was wondering if they are the same or they went to a different part. (both LWB DRW 2WD club/quad)

More than likely they are different.

They used to be Dana axles/driveshafts now they are AAM
