Got a tapper

04 I just picked up has a tapping noise when you start it for about 30 sec.Hoped oil change would fix it did not .Amsoil 5w40 and motorkote still there.Sounds like a lifter pumping up.

X2 on the injector, Id seafoam it. My 03 did the same thing, right or wrong I ran a quart and a half per tank of 2 stroke oil in it till I traded it on my 06. The oil killed the ticking altogether.

This thread should help you determine if Hot Shot Secret is worthwhile.

first tank one can seafoam, next tank two stroke. No need in the crank case. But that warranty is 5yr, 100k isnt it? What was your trucks in service date?

If it is a slight ticking it is the air bleeding out of the injection system. No need to worry. It's fine.

I have howes meaner power cleaner, motorkote fuel conditioner and 2 stroke in it.I think cummins waranty is miles regardless of age.It sounds like an old chevy 350 waitin for the lifter to oil up.It runs great no fuel smell in old oil.The only odd thing is when you rev it up the rpm's stutter when they fall.Picked this rig up for my daughter coming home from iraq hope I did't get a turd.!

Very common issue, doubt you got a junker. I would hook up something heavy and go run it hard for about an hour or so. It will run much better. No real need to put all the junk in the fuel system. Good old clean #2 is all you need and some good towing every other month.
