GM Governor Solenoid Conversion
GM Governor Solenoid Conversion
Anyone know about the GM Governor Solenoid conversion?
Good or bad?
This kit was specifically designed to handle higher base pressure in high performance applications and to improve the reliability of the governor solenoid in normal use. In performance units the pressure can flood the Dodge solenoid and cause a no shift condition at full throttle. This is the fix. Fits all rear wheel drive RE model transmissions.

i just installed one yesterday morning; refilled, buttoned her up and NOTHING! Would go into any gear, period.
Pulled the pan, checked install, wiring etc.....looked fine. Refilled and tried again. NOTHING!
She would move into ANY GEAR.
I put the stock solenoid/manifold back in and she shifts now.
Returning the converstion kit as new solenoid likely bad.
Don't have a warm fuzzy abaout this upgrade......

That's what I keep reading. I'm going to send it back for a replacement; have the Macco shop down the street install it this time; do a full flush and it should work fine. Just have to arrange replacement.
Question: on the installation instructions it reads to rotate the solenoid up under the filter (I assume so its out of the way); I didn't rotate it, since I would have to loosen it to do it. No chance what was what was wrong you think?

A shop I deal with had an issue with one. It ended up that the sol kit had the wrong solenoid in it. It had one for a 4L60E trans instead of the one for a 4L80E. I switched mine before I put it in and it works great.
Put one in on mine and it helped some but issues turned out to be deeper then a simple part change out. New ATS going in on Thursday. My finding are that its a good idea as the billet ones allow better flow and less likely of hanging up do to particles/clutch debris thus less issues. So if your seeing weirdness and think thats the cure all make sure to look into it further as it may not be all thats hiding in the back ground.
Just my 2 cents thats all I have left now.
