governor pressure solenoid valve

I'm getting this valve replaced as part of the 21-009-07 TSB ... the dealer said he has one in stock which I bet has been kicking around for a while. Anyone know if they have updated/upgraded this part recently for the TSB or are they just throwing the same old part at it again?

What were your symptoms?

What is the text of the TSB?

I've been having a low speed surge...I think it's having trouble shifting 1-2 and 2-3 at very light throttle. i.e. 1-2 would be 10-15mph, like in a parking lot. 2-3 would be in freeway traffic ~25-30mph. But ONLY on very light throttle. If I get on it >1/4 throttle, there's no problem.

The solenoid p/n 4617210 is a current number and unchanged since probably '95 or '96. The transducer got a redo in '99 or '00. That is the part that usually fails and doesn't allow downshifts. If you have an experienced tech, he will more than likely replace it as well. It won't hurt to ask him. I'd ask.

My tranny has many shifting problems but this TSB is for the infamous 1-2 shift hunt under light throttle. Hopefully this will solve at least one of my problems. It sounds like you need this TSB done also Tony.

thanks ratlratl
I wonder would a defective transducer cause it to clunk into gear when downshifting? Cuz that's just one more thing mine does also. I'll ask him to replace it the transducer also ... but if they won't how much would it cost me approx. ?
I wish there was a way I could grenade this p.o.s. tranny and try a new one. I've been in a few other trucks like mine and they shift much better ... I just got a bad one and they won't even try to make it right unless it's broke. How do I break the darn thing?
I'm getting this done tomorrow so I'll report back if any improvements ... hopefully.

Mopard- It is around $70, the thing is the tech has to touch this part to get the solenoid out. Like I said most GOOD techs will replace this for you any way. The solenoid takes it 's orders from the readings of the t/ducer, so it only makes sense. Worst problem I had with one was it wasn't downshifting at all. It wouldn't read TPS voltage or something. There are two adjustments on the side of the valve body that control pressure. If these are incorrectly done or just turned in too far it will make the tranny downshift hard when you are rolling to a stop. Like yanking it into first at 15 mph. HARD clunk.

well I got that TSB done today. Thanks ratlratl for the tip! and the part# was right on. The mech did replace the transducer also while in there. For sure they would not have had I not "nudged" them into it. They also replaced the filter as I asked which was cool and did the bands ... 5-1/2 qts of fresh ATF+4 so I'm good to go. These guys are good to me. And I got to watch him do everything so I learned something too. For sure it wasn't his first time in there.
The tranny pan and fluid, after dropped, looked great ... no problems there. With the new parts it seems the shift hunting is gone and I may even admit that some of the shifting problems I was having may be a little better ... though more miles are required. All in all it was a good deal and I couldn't ask for anymore. They also repaired my coolant leak, checked the ball-joints (good as new), washed my truck and gave me a new ash tray ... I signed my name, said thanks and took off ... gotta luv it
Oh, and I brought the old solenoid and transducer home ... I was gonna post pics but would this actually help anyone? if so I will.

I wouldn't mind seeing the pics, if you don't mind. Thanks.

It's REALLY good to see a positive visit to a dealer posted on here once in a while. I'm glad it all worked out....so far.

ok efil4ynot, I'll get a pic up soon as I can.

Update for anyone thinking about having this TSB done:

After a few more miles and different driving conditions I can tell you my truck definitely shifts better. I could write a few paragraphs on how these couple little parts changed and improved MANY of the shifting characteristics of my tranny and not just the 1-2 shift hunt ... maybe later. It's still not perfect on a consistent basis but it is much better in many ways. From day one I've been fighting to have something done with my tranny ... it truly shifted like crap in nearly every way ... and finally I can smile a bit and say thank you ... at least for now _ hehe

Could you post the transducer part # too?

Thanks.

Glad to hear of your positive experience and results.

Looking at the torn bag that the transducer came in and the old transducer itself and the common # on both is p/n 56028196AD. I assume this is it ... maybe ratlratl can verify.
Sorry don't have the pics yet but soon.

My truck is going in wednesday for this tsb, they are also going to put new leaf springs in it, supposedly new leaf springs have helped cure the take off while loaded shudder, we will see.
