I woud just use the ignition source from the fuse box. Just tap into one of the fuses that is ignition hot instead of trying to tie into your steering column! I want to say fuse #24 from memory, but that may not be right, be sure to check or hopefully somone will chime in.

Several of the on-line sources, recommend pulling the headlight switch panel, I had to take out a couple of phillips head screws and then T-tap into one of the orange (orange w/black or brown stripe?), will come on with headlights. Take ignition-on power from cigarette lighter.

I just mounted a mini switch in my dash gauge pod....no wire tampering, plus most of the time i like my gauge lights off at night...the local johnny law thinks every truck with guages is a race truck....here in sandy eggo street racing tickets are like DUI's, impound, jailed, and fined plus driving schools...which i fully agree with...but i have never raced anyone in any of my vehicals, but i have been pulled over and "warned" about it just because I had my guages on...

On my '05 I used the ORG/BRN wire at the light switch for gauge light and tapped into the PNK/YEL cigar lighter feed down at the firewall (where the big cable comes thru) for the gauge power feed.

I used the Smaller pink wire with the yellow tracer that leads to the 100 pin connector under the drivers side dash for the switched 12v power source. I also installed an inline 5 amp fuse.

For the lighting-- I used one of the orange wires with the brown tracer behind the headlight switch.

Ran all the ground wires to the same screw under the drivers side dash.
