G56 ratios (might be stupid)

Howdy!

I bought a 2002 as a stopgap until the 3rd gens had a couple of model years under their belts, but of course that gives DCX time to screw things up too. I was playing with a spreadsheet and have learned that the G56 with a 3.55 axle is the same (for sixth, anyway) as an NV5600 with a 3.84 axle if one existed. At least it's not as bad as being like a 4.11, but for my driving, and a lot of other people as well, I am sure, the 3.55 and NV5600 is a good match.

I can understand them wanting to go to something corporate, and I can even accept the aluminum case if it's strong enough, but 75 mph is going to cost me 170 rpm. Maybe I'm just worrying about nothing. Or, mabye DCX could put a 3.27 axle behind it, but then the middle gears are all moved around. Or better yet, an 8 speed with a lower 1st and higher than NV5600 8th and stay with the 3.73 for the best of all worlds.

I wonder if Diamler has a more appropriate transmission up its sleeves, or if the G56 can be given some better ratios.

Gack.

Just venting....

Are you sure the G3 axle ratios cost you 170 rpm? They changed tire size at the same time; I thought it came out about even.

with that g56 tranny, you will have more engine rpm crusing along in 6th than you would have with a nv5600 rpm...

I was hoping for that when I heard the G56 would have a lower 6th gear. It seems like a logical move. DC has used the 3.55 rear end before.

My .02 worth -- keep the 3.73...

..and give me some 35" Toyo MT's from the factory.

Throw in the built in winch on the bumper and they will have a deal.

Well I guess their not going back to the 3.55,It was a Dana ratio. Its not available in the AAM axels.D.C. was wanting to change to 3.73 for many years. It was not a pulling gear. The Rep that came to our D.C.dealer mentioned this back in 1999.Last Dodge I had with Cummin and 3.55 I installed 4.10s.Drove and TOWED much better.3.73 was a much better compromise.
