G56 And Fork Lift Damage

just had some leaking seals replaced on my g56, and talking to the tranny tech at my dealership, found out that LOTS of g56's have been leaking, or will eventually be leaking because they were damaged when they were hauled around by fork lift while uncrated. dodge has seen lots of leaking seals in the same places, and eventually traced it back to fork lift damage. i would advise a very close inspection of all seals (especially if nearing the end of your warranty), and have any seeping or leaks inspected by your dealer- btw, if you have any repairs done, make sure you get the updated 2 piece shifter, as it is much better than the original piece.

Mine had a tear in the seal around the shifter. When they went to order the seal it was on national back order. It took several weeks to get it in.

What is the 2 piece shifter? I haven't heard of this.

that's one of the common areas for leaks- the updated shifter is a two piece, rather than the stock one piece shifter, and has a bend that brings the shifter closer to the driver position. almost feels like a shift kit was put in, and shifts feel much smoother.

i think my original stick was straight, but i'm not 100% certain. i know with the new one, it's definitely closer to me, and makes for much more comfortable shifting.

Which seals are leaking?

Having ripped their guts out on a bench at the shop, I imagine the likeliest place for a fork to cause a leak is impact damage to the PTO covers... or did they drop them from more than 3 feet?

Our late-build '05 has the straight stick (and shifts like a dream), and the '06s have the curved one - shifts great as well.

they tend to leak on top, around the shifter, and from the output shaft. maybe it's just me, but i think the new 2 piece shifter is much smoother and in a better position.

That makes sense - sometimes you can smell the +4 aroma getting past the shifter seal at speed.

The 2-piece shifters do make it easy to mount a custom shift arm.

would you happen to have a picture of a custom shift arm, that you would be interested in posting?
