we run a fleet of g56's the g56 must have one quart over full to lube and cool the front bearing. also you must get rid of the dual mass flywheel. most use southbend but volair is also good. the rebuilders recomend pennzoil syncromesh. we have temp gauges on ours and tow extremely heavy we have or are trying several different ones. the gorilla juice was a little to thick for our liking in the cold weather, the same for synthetic syncromesh sae50 but we blended a 50-50 mix of synthetic syncromesh sae50 with synthetic syncromesh 5w-30 that we are going to switch all of them over to, it gave the lowest operating temp with good cold shifting and quiet. we used the dello sae50 because we stock it for our 13-15 and 18 speed road rangers and used amsoil for the same reason on the 5w-30.

I am running amsoil ATF+4 {6 qts.} oil in my G-56 tranny as reommended, so to lube the front bearing and to keep it cool you over fill past the fill hole? How do you get the extra qt. in there without dismanteling the shifter? Dual mass gone. Will adding an additive to the amsoil be compatable? Thanks

7qts of Gorilla Juice in mine yesterday.

Just pull the shifter and dump it in. Not a hard job at all. 20 mins tops.

Yup

Few screws to pull the cup holder console. Remove the rubber boots, maybe 6 or seven screws on that. Four star type screws to pull the shifter, and dump in seven quarts.

Hi Carl! What is your reason for dumping the dual mass flywheel? Curious mind here.

the dual mass flywheel will ruin the g56. none last beyond 75,000 miles. when you pull the g56 you will find the front seal weeping. what happens the dmf has a pilot bushing, not a bearing. the mickey mouse portion of the flywheel that presses against the disk moves all over the place and is not balanced very well. this causes extra wear on the pilot bushing , front seal and bearing in the g56. the southbend has a real bearing and a one piece flywheel. once you get the pos dmf out on the floor this will become immediately obvious

I have to disagree due to the fact I replaced my first clutch and DMF @ 199,994 miles. I bought the truck brand new and use it to pull 53' gooseneck trailers. Of course I don't try and take off like I am running a race like a lot of guys do when pulling a trailer either. I am on 282K miles now. A truck will last when the driver knows how to operate it correctly. IMO Thanks for the insight though.
