If you were to run 1/2" fuel line from tank to the CP3 with all needed filters, and you remove the banjo bolt and use a suitable adapter on the CP3 and have the 1/2" line going into that, is the return line fine, or does something need to be done with that?

The larger return line would not be needed but would not hurt to have it there either.
