fuel rail problem

fuel rail problem

i work for valvoline .... so today i decided to to the diesel fuel rail system cleaner ....

after my truck high idled up to 4000 rpm .... didnt sound good and blew out alot of black and white smoke

now it sets in idle at 1800 + .... this isnt right .... something isnt

i have been told the system could have messed it up ... i have been told i might have some bad injectors that are flooding the motor .... i have also been told my ecm can possibly be fried and it is making the truck all wacky ...

whatever it is valvoline is covering it .... i just need people more knowledgeable than i am to chime in with their opinion

Sounds like an injector is stuck open. Someone needs to look at it with a DRBII tool.

4000 Rpm how did it even go to that? I would think it would bounce off the rev limiter.

dont know .... motor put out white and black smoke ..... im just curious on whats wrong .. but work is paying for it because its their product

btw it rattled a bolt that said KXY 129 on the head ... dont know where that goes i think its exhaust

When a injector sticks open, it is dumping fuel the whole time. 1 hot cylinder is enough to overspeed an engine like that. The only way for the engine to shut down is to close the FCA and it takes a while for the fuel to drain out of the CP3 and rail. The last Cummins school I went through, the instructor told me of a 6.7 that a injector stuck open while on the dyno. It took 12 seconds for it to burn a hole through the piston.

I am willing to bet that something stuck 1 or more injectors open and caused the failure you are talking about. Now, besides the fuel system failure, what happened to the rest of the engine?

not to sure i live about 80 miles away from a cummins plant ... i think my valvoline reps are picking it up from work on monday and they are taking it back to memphis and tear it down to see whats wrong .... that makes for an easy 10 minute run to cummins to give them the failed injectors ... its just makes really hard injector clatter ... and its throwing white smoke ... so i dont know .... what ever is wrong valvoline is covering it .... so whatever is wrong i just hope it gets fixed soon ...
