Fuel filter replacement

My mileage has been continually dropping. Performance seems unchanged. I have put about 8K miles on the truck since I bought it. I am assuming (I know, I know) that the dealer changed the fuel filter before I purchased. Am I due for a change? What is a good brand of filter and a part number? Anything special I need to know or look out for?

Thanks guys,

Hondo

Hondo, what total mileage does your truck have on it now? I definitely wouldn't assume the dealership changed anything. When I bought my truck used (sight unseen), it was overdue for an oil change and the dealership hadn't bothered to do one. Needless to say I was not pleased.

It could be the fuel filter or the air filter. My mileage has also dropped a little recently, and my fuel filter is still fairly new, but the air filter look real dirty with 17k on it. I don't think these filter minders are as accurate as Dodge claims they are. I'm going to change my air filter soon and see if the mileage picks up again.

Hondo---- My filter choice has always been from cummins, part# fs-19579, probably the best price also, don't buy at the dealer their price is outragous. I change every second oil change, 15000 miles. Hope this helps.

When my '05 hit 15k I replaced the fuel filter. I had been thinking the MPG average was down as the truck got older, but the new filter didn't have any noticible effect whatsoever. I think as I get used to the power my foot just naturally wants to romp on it harder around town.
