Front Axle damage?

Got truck stuck and after it was pulled out there is a loud banging @ right front wheel. Steering is limited and it binds up on turning. ABS, Brake lights on. Nursed it slowly to the cabin. Waiting on the farmer to find out where to take it. Axle fluid was leaking out same side. So with that looking for best options to repair. Thinking of swapping axle out for good used one. Any off roaders who know options appreciate input.

Have you visually inspected it? What happened? There has to be more to the story. How did it get pulled out? Did the damage happen while trying to pull it out, or while trying to drive it out? Can you see damage, such as a broken u-joint? Why replace the axle, if it can be fixed?

From what you described it almost sounds like a front axle joint broke but you would be able to see it if that were the case. If it did break it could cause the axle shaft to move enough to cause a leak from the axle tube.

That's my guess but as rockcrawler304 stated, pics would be a huge help in this case.

Thanks- No pics yet

Had to leave truck @ camp to be at work today. Only pics taken were at site of immobilization. Shinny metal observed at end of axle back of wheel/caliper. Will ask repair place to send pics. Engine runs fine. Thanks for the replies.

Yes, that is either u joint or half shaft.

Wheel was proably spinning being pulled out then suddenly caught good traction.

Anyway, that is my guess without the pics.

Update - fixable

The Front right u-joint came apart, half shaft toast, ball joints on right side bad and hub bearing bad (soaked in water overnight). 99,800 on the odo so ball joints and bearings are expected now or soon. Should be done next weekend. Will take on the font left ball joints and hub bearing when needed on my own. Thanks for the replies!

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear you're not swapping the axle out!
