Fan Issues??
Fan Issues??
So here is the situation, my and I both have 2006 Megacabs, but our fans seems to be reacting differently, as well as his truck runs hotter than mine. When at idle, both fans engage the same and the same amount of low seems to be pushing thru, as well as the same draw thru the grill. When I start to go (with the A/C on) I can hear my fan working, giving that familiar "roar" up until enough air is flowing thru the grill. On his, You can't hear anything when he starts going, in fact you can barely hear his fan even at idle. He also runs hotter than I do. He runs 205* to my 195* for an equal situation. He can also see 220*-230* or higher when towing, but never hears his fan ever come on. Any ideas? Is his fan working or is the clutch slipping at higher speeds? Or is mine too loud?
Your fan clutch is working, your friends is not.
The failed clutch will turn the fan by the resistance in the clutch but will not lock up and give the extra air needed to cool under a load. The clutch works like a torque converter lock up in an auto trans. When a good clutch locks up the fan will roar above the engine noise.
A bad clutch will not always throw a code.
