Ethics of adding Performance Enhancements
I think it is easy to answer yes or no on many different issues we are all face with. Many have been pointed out here already. But one could also argue the same thing on income taxes. How many of us pay the honest amont due? How many of us stretch the truth for certain deductions, like bumping the amount of chartable contributions? Does that make us lairs and cheats? Doesn't the honest man then have to pay more than his share? This is an interesting discussion.
"The automobile business is an adversal relatiohship. The dealer trys to get as much as he can from the customer and the customer trys to get as much as they can from the dealer. Discussing honesty in the automobile business ,dealers and customers,is like discussing virture among ******."
I've been treated fairly by the dealer on warranty issues, and my experience buying the truck was like the heavens parting. I had pretty much given up buying a truck as I couldn't find what I wanted. I started looking at dealer inventory online, and after searching four states I found one dealer in central OR that had several of the trucks that I wanted. After calling about the trucks and telling the dealer to hold one as we'd probably end up buying it, he asked for some ID as by law he had to hold it since it was a loss leader. I told him that it would take a couple of hours to get down there, and he said that he could start processing the paperwork in the meantime. When we got there it was waiting, they only had two left, and although I looked it over I didn't even test drive it. In less than an hour I had the truck, which was not only a loss leader, but I was also able to apply a factory discount. I haven't heard of anyone else getting a quad cab 4x4 for less, the dealer was not only fair he was helpful, and Dodge's practice of making inventory available online allowed them to sell a truck.
I've helped 'sell' two other Dodge diesels to friends and coworkers, one of them 'sold' another to a relative, and one of them will soon 'sell' yet another to a friend.
As mentioned before, don't include me in the 'all of us' or 'everyone' statements when trying to justify lying, cheating, or stealing.

If you put a box on your truck, you run the risk of breaking something. If you break something, you can't expect the dealer to honor warranty if you modify your truck.. My truck has a straight pipe and gauges, and I don't expect the dealer to fix any exhaust problems.

I have always believed that I should NOT let someone else determine for me how I am going to act or react. Just because some else does it and even gets away with it doesn't make it right for me. If I buy something that is supposed to enhance my truck, then the maker of that enhancement should be ready to carry the warranty that DC wont cover. I think Banks does. Does anyone else? No matter, I will NOT cheat another just because someone else thinks it is okay for them. And I am able to sleep pretty well every night!

Agreed 100% Frank. Any mods Ive made to my truck, are my problem. Yes, it may cost me more in the long run, but I can sleep at night, knowing Im not cheating anyone. Now, if someone tried to deny warranty on my motor, because my truck has a straight pipe, then Id say something, But, luckily, I have a really nice service dept manager, that doesn't mind modded trucks.

Cracked block has nothing to do with mods ! (Ford)
Yes I have the truck chipped and it may have contributed to early head gasket failure but I don't beat or abuse my truck. The injectors ( 5 since new ), 2 seperate oil leaks, turbo problems and lastly a cracked block have little to nothing to do with my mods.

DC has made some money off of my many purchases over the years including four Cummins powered Rams. That's what they're in business for. It's not a charity to provide me with a novelty truck. That's not a rip off. Shop around and get the deal you're comfortable with. We're all conservatives until "we" want a handout.
I personally think $5k for a rebuilt tranny is a rip off as is $500+ for an IC chip in a fancy box. Banks has some outrageous prices to go with their shiny stuff. So I've run all of my trucks bone stock and all have had more than plenty of power for work and towing our 5th wheel. Even the Hemi...
If I have to go to the dealership, I won't have to worry about covering up or having warranty denied because I didn't adhere to the warranty requirements (agreement) written out in the owner's manual. But that's just me. Not a religeous bone in my body but I like having a clean conscience just the same.
