Ethics of adding Performance Enhancements

Just want to take a little anonymous poll here. Its very simple. Lets say you run a chip on your truck and you encounter some engine problems. Do you think is is okay to take the chip off, and take your truck into the dealership and deny having a chip ?

I had a fuel pressure sender problem while on vacation, called a dealer, told the service dept. of my problem and that I had a box, they said bring it in, unhook it, and they will take care of it. Honest upfront, no BS, fixed truck. probably wont always work, but that is the chance we take. we modified it, we pay for it.

I AM MY OWN WARRANTY.

The way I see it, they'll try their best to screw us, so what's the big deal with us being a wee-bit dishonest, especially if it's something that we feel the box had nothing to do with?

I wouldn't hesitate to try to cover it up. I paid mega-bucks for the truck. I'm the little guy, Dodge is the big guy. Auto manufacturers will try to get out of doing warranty work, or will not even acknowledge problems(death wobble for instance) that are their fault.

What's the big deal?

These are the kinds of arguments I hear on this board, and many other diesel boards. Dodgezilla and DirtEater have two different opinions. I thought it would be fun to put a poll together and just try and put some numbers around this argument, and see what the general consensus feels about this issue.

I would say it just depends, if I chip my truck & change the boost to 50psi & it blows the intercooler apart =my fault, I'll fix it If it just develops a rear main oil leak= warranty.

'Getting back at Dodge' is like 'getting back at the insurance compnay'; everyone who buys the product or service ends up paying for it. Some may think that it's their right to have others pay for their poor judgement, but as I recall we won the cold war and aren't a bunch of commies. If you wanna play then expect to pay.

The big deal is moral relativism. Using your logic, if I rob a bank and manage to get only $5, I'm not as guilty as the guy who robbed a bank and managed to get $500,000!

Personally, I answer to someone greater than me, and He doesn't buy this argument.

I am with Rusty on this one, if we cause damage to our trucks it is not reasonable to expect DCX to fix it for free. If you have the nutz to enhance your truck then have the nutz to accept the end result. Be upfront like Dodgezilla was, and take whatever is decided. If one wants to cry, stay on the porch with the P-jokes and D-maxi's. Nuff said.

I would try the honest approach. 50/50 chance that you will get taken care of. If you lie, kiss any goodwill that may have existed, goodbye.

The things I really worry about today have nothing to do with my truck. We've got men and women fighting for us in all corners of the globe. We've got terrorists plotting against us as I type this on our own soil. We've got politicians trying to take away our natural-born rights and tell us how we should and shouldn't live. Whether or not my Cummins lives or dies at my hands is not something I rate high on my list of worries. My point is, we all take our chances everyday, in all types of ways. Priorities are just that.... start worrying about the things that really matter. Gettin' off my soapbox now. Outta here... T

GETTING THRU THE PEARLY GATES.

Better be true to the BIG MAN in
this life or you will be spending eternity with dis honest service
advisors and those "few" bad lawyers.

I have no mods and getting anything done at a dealer is like pulling teeth.
Enjoy your stay TIM......LOVE HOUTEX...

This question to me is hit and miss.

Let's say we have a truck with a VP44, which is a known issue on these trucks. They are failing right and left, and DC often fights back against replacing these on a non-mod'd truck.

So, if I mod a VP44 truck, and the pump knuckles under 4-6 months after I mod it, then, NO, I am not going to fess up to it.

Now, my current situation... CR trucks, small problems with fuel pumps, a few known injector problems, etc.

I mod the 04.5, run off down the interstate and cook the turbo....then yes, I will be honest. Blow the head of the motor, yes I will admit to it. Have an injector start acting up.....uh....hmm....that might be a tough one.

Personally, I think they should warranty the truck even with a few mods. I am talking a low to mid range performance module, and intake/exhaust. These are things that enhance the truck, and don't effect the overall vehicle.

Now, if you starting running a TST on 7/7, with Twin Super Bs, etc, etc and are pulling...then you are on your own, and no....they shouldn't fix anything you crack/break on the motor.

My view is tainted because I had to trick a dealer into doing TSBs on a vehicle that is still under warranty. As far as I am concerned, they should send a letter to any vehicle owner that is effected by a TSB and FIX THE DARN THING FOR FREE. So, their honesty/integrity with me is directly proportional to mine with them. They currently don't have my back, so I sure as HECK don't have theirs.

I bought the 7 year 70,000 Mile warranty; that I expect DC to honor. I live up to my end by maintaining the truck and exersizing reasonalbe punishment on it. I feel free to load to the gills and floor it up any hill. And my little SO pulls it!!!

I did not vote because it would depend on if it was related to the issue or not.

That is where I come down on the issue. Do any of you think that it is hard to get DC to perform warranty work because they get burned an a lot? Yeah we paid "mega bucks" for these trucks and DC is the "big guy" but that does not mean we should try and steal from them.

If the guy next door makes more money than me is it OK for me to steal cable from him?
