But it's really not black and white, cut and dry the way you suggest. Not everyone puts the same importance of honesty and integrity into every aspect of their lives.
I value my relationship with my children, firendships and other relationships, and I place honesty and loyalty at the top of the list. At work, I demonstrate daily a very high level of integrity and it shows with my co-workers, both subordinates as well as superiors.
A person might not consider ever taking their truck to a dealer knowing all along that the mod caused the truck to screw up, afterall they're super honest and conduct their life with the utmost integrity.
But.........The same person may think it's okay to drink and drive after having just 2 or 3 beers because they're sure that it takes at least 4 beers to get a good beer-buzz on.
Same person may think it's okay to lie to the Pastor when they were asked why they didn't make last Sunday's service.
Same person may think it's okay to commit adultery with their spouse's best friend, because they're unhappily married anyway.
Same person may think it's okay to cheat on a college exam in order ot get a passing grade.
Same person may also think that the extra $10 bill that the grocery checker gave them back for change mistakenly is okay to keep.
Ofcourse I could go on and on.... We all have our varying degrees of honesty and integrity and what we'll allow ourselves to do, or not do. Nobody's perfect. We all have a tendency to be dishonest in one way or another.

You claim the dealers rip you off all the time and you don't like it, but you see nothing wrong with doing the same thing yourself. Don't hold them to a higher moral conviction than you are willing to hold yourself to

It saddens me that such a high percentage are indicating they would lie to gain an advantage over the dealer and disassociate themselves with the concept of stealing--which it clearly is. Perhaps there are an equal percentage of dealerships who also operate their business on the ethical and honesty edge. My Dodge dealer in my small Wyoming community is not one of those, and if he was I would be shopping elsewhere. My guess is there probably are only a few of dealers who would intentionally cheat a customer, and in time the word will be out and the marketplace will exact its revenge. Outside the marketplace, the most important thing most of us have to sell is our reputation. In my case I fugure life seems easier if I work to earn a good reputation. Not only is it the right thing to do, it is also in my self interest.

I tend to agree with TOP, you all know what you know to be right and wrong. You make your choices and deal with your conscience. I would suggest to the Moderator that this morality issue would be best discussed on a different forum.
TSB's ?? nobody i know has been contacted to fix those problems. most bike builders have a saying that pertains to harley davidson - FTF. (F the Factory) this can cross reference to DC as well. any moderate upgrades should not affect my warranty.
There are plenty legitimate reasons to question corporate ethics. But it is a mistake to link corporate behavior to decisions we make about our personal behavior. Stockholders and consumers alike need to be vigilant and hold corporate executives accountable for their greed, and at the same time realize our society benefits when individuals act ethically. When nearly half of the respondents to this questionaire indicate they see no problem cheating the company, this is bad news for all of us.
I think the difference on the traffic ticket issue would be Get it ticket and you know you did it .. Pay the fine...
Dishonest... Go to court and lie or try and figure a way to try not ot pay it.
I to drive pretty fast, have tinted windows and no front plate (real cool cummins plate on the front). All of the above are violations in California.. I know they are violations. I know the risk and if I get cited then I'll pay the ticket and go on with life.
not lie or try to figure a way to weasle my way out of paying it...

Wow, this poll has really taken a change when it first started. Initially, the "No" votes heavily outweight the "Yes" votes, but now we are in a dead even tie 50/50. From this you can clearly see the anomocity and frustration owners have with the dealership. We can all agree that the dealerships take advantage of us, through purchasing or servicing our vehicles. Is it wrong or right to take advantage of the them ? Well that depends on what you view as ethical.

Don't ever put words in my mouth to justify lies, cheating, and stealing. I'll listen to arguments about justifying cheating, lies, and such as there are structures that can be used to evaluate ethics using the technique of 'breaking a law', Kohlberg being one of my favorites.

i paid a lot of extra money for the chrysler extended warranty on my new rig.
for the first 100k it is all on chrysler as far as i am concerned. i will not do anythig to void that warranty or give them a reason to deny service. after 100k i will add some minor mods.
dodge was nice enough to take care of the exhaust for me 4" front to back

The automobile business is an adversal relatiohship. The dealer trys to get as much as he can from the customer and the customer trys to get as much as they can from the dealer. Discussing honesty in the automobile business ,dealers and customers,is like discussing virture among ******.
This is one of those close your eyes and pick desicions. I took my truck in cause my Fianc`ee drove it (pick of her in Gallery) All 100lbs of her drove my truck around the block (scared to drive it far, my kind of truck there) and she grabed the e-brake handle to pull and it fell off. The dealer said well how hard did you pull on it. I said my Girl pulled on it using her finger. I said if this truck is going to fall apart from a 100lb girl, you guys are buying it back. They replaced the part and I save 9 dollars from buying another one. Sometimes I do think they try to squeeze more out of you than needed. I have a Bumper to Bumper, yeah if a deer hits the truck i don't expect them to cover it, but if a wheel falls off with 50 miles from the factory and I crash into a tree, they better give me all the parts for free cause of a truck that was faulty to begin with (I do understand small parts, but if something big happened boy oh boy)
I'm with most on here, if it was a part due to the box, I'd pay for it myself. if it was something non Box related, take it off to avoid the hassel. I mean if my rear tail light screw strips out and the tail light falls off and smashes and dodge tells me it's due to the box, I would kill myself (why I don't go there much)
It is about honisty and like most if I cause the problem, I'll fix the problem. If it's not my problem, then it's somebody elses (meaning it breaks and not my fault, dodge worries)
I do know about ethics (it's our works moto) but one year when i was rushing home (wife cut hand or something) I was doing about 85 in a 55 to get home. Cop nails me, says see you in court. Well before I got on the road there was this old lady about 80 years old trying to change a flat, cop pulls out and goes past, so I take a picture. Go to court blah blah 500 dollar fine. I say how long were you sitting there, he says 10 mins. Show the judge the picture of the cop passing this old lady and not helping, bam, dismised. To protect and serve. I would have gladly paid that fine (cause I did break the law, no matter what my reason) but they also have a duty to protect others, not just make money. Most people today only care about money, and with the market doing what it's doing, it's gonna get ugly.
Comes to my truck and my wife. Only me and Mr. S&W decide
Ok I'm done (most of this caused by a fill up today of fuel, and the realization that I have no money to buy a house with now that the prices of everything went up) Stupid small state
