Engine hours vs. mileage on odometer
Maybe I'm doing something wrong but when I try the engine hour check procedure my whole console lights up like a bulb check...gauges and everything...the odmoeter reads out only 3 digits...almost like a code of some kind. Then it scrolls to another 3 didit number. I have 78000 KM's when I bought it and would like to know the engine hours.
Am I supposed to hold the trip/odometer button in while I turn the key to the on position or do I do it after???

59,450.00 miles and 1227 hours... most driving is commuting from the SF Bay Area to the Sierra's and back every weekend. Most hours (slow-go) is Friday afternoons mass evacuation East on I-80, and then coming back down the hill fighting the winter ski crowd coming home on Sunday afternoons. Almost same in summer because Reno always has some event that attracts Ca people.
I came accross my own old post,
I found this interesting that on Aug 16 2008 @ 58,750 miles I was averaging 41.7 Miles/engine hour.
Now, in May 2010 at 130,000 miles I am averaging just over 43 miles an hour even though I am doing less "Highway" or "Interstate" type driving than ever before.
I attribute this to changes in the company I work for. I used to have a company fuel card where my fuel was paid for by the company. Now I foot the bill for fuel so I think I idle the truck less than I used to and my average has gone up even though I drive slower in an effort to conserve fuel and less highway driving to boot!
Very interesting.
I will admit that there were times when my fuel was being paid for by someone else that i would idle the truck to maintain a more comfortable cab temperature, while I am more prone to shutting it off now.
27.4 mph average wow
Yea i always shut my truck off..i constantly have engine life in mind and shut it off if it will run more than 5 mins or so....even if i have to sleep in it i run it only long enough to get warm then shut it off and go to sleep...wake up few hours later and repeat.
I want this thing to last 20,000 hours
