Hi, I have a ecm from a dodge ram 2500 cummins 2004 that doesn’t work (I think). The starter works, the engine turns but the engine does’t start and all gauges in the dash does't go up. The garage told me that my ecm is not working. I opened it (I didn’t know we had to open the back side first to remove 8 screws inside before we open the front) and I damaged a bit the bord and I hope it will not be an issue (see the pictures) but I don’t know if I have the tipical problem that those truck dodge cummins have. I’m not sure about what I see. Thanks for your help and support.
To remove the ecm and to open it, it took me less than one hour. I got the truck for 1650$ and I parked the truck to my friend’s farm (1.5 hour from my house). The last owner brought the truck to a garage to get the transmission changed and 3 months later, when the transmission finally arrived (COVID-19 didn’t help) they had to boost the truck and they damaged the ecm.
When I opened the ecm, I damaged the bord and I also damage 2 small things (see the picture, I don’t know the name of those 2 parts). I had another ecm with similar parts in it so I just replaced those 2 small things.
I hope my learning will help someone else. If you have to replace your ecm, maybe you have the same problem. It looks like it is a typical problem for those dodge ram cummins. I don’t know if I’ll have to change the transmission, we’ll see, but now I have a lot of work to do on the truck to pass the safety inspection (the truck is from Ontario and I live in Quebec) the body is in bad shape, very bad shape.
