Sudden Acceleration with answer from Cummins

This is the answer from Cummins.

Summary: 04 Dodge throttle control

Solution:

Thanks for your Email message.

Bill, Dodge chose to handle all service and warranty on the Dodge Ram trucks and their diagnostic tools are the only ones that can be used on their vehicle. Cummins shops do not handle any warranty and the Cummins INSITE tool is not compatible with the Dodge engine controller. It is impossible for us to guess as to what may have caused this malfunction.

The Dodge Ram has a Cummins Electronic Control Module (ECM) on the engine, as well as a Dodge ECM for the chassis and to control the Cummins engine ECM. It could have been something in these ECM's or possibly a wiring harness issue or maybe one of the several sensors that monitor the engine and chassis functions. The throttle pedal is also electronic and works in conjuction with the Dodge ECM.

The issue may never happen again but we can understand your concerns and suggest that you continue working with the Dodge dealer or possible have another dealer check it out or possibly contact Dodge.

For more information about the Dodge product, we suggest you contact
Dodge at "www.4adodge.com" or 1-800-992-1997 (DaimlerChrysler Customer Service).

Fluff. They haven't got a clue what happened. Nice form letter. Not an answer at all.

but at least they replied. I think they did give an answer, they do not know what caused the malfunction, contact Dodge. Poor answer but an answer nonetheless.

Why is that a lame answer? it makes total sense................. . They dont have anything to do with the electronics and comps that Dodge integrates in to control it. At least you got a response!

That's a perfect answer for me.

Cummins sells Dodge the motors, without a warrentee. Dodge has to make the motors work in the Dodge chassis, and if the Cummins motor breaks,, DaimlerChrysler has to foot the bill.

Dodge's hand is very heavy in how the Cummins motor operates in the Dodge Chassis. From Lift pump, to APPS, from Downpipe, to AirFilter is all Dodge.

The problem is not the Cummins motor, it is in DaimlerChrysler's end of the Deal.

Don't kid yourself. Cummins knows exactly what goes on with their ISB in Dodge trim. They are much too reputable a company to throw an engine at DC and say "go at it". DC does the warranty but Cummins knows how they work.
