E-Rated Tires
I just got onto days off from work - after dumping equipment and before leaving the shop, my area manager mentioned that the Toyo M-55's are now available in 17" size(s). There was no mention on how many different sizes however.
We've put the M-55's on our company trucks in the past when they had 16" rims, but were unavailable when Ford went to 17". They are an incredidble tire IMHO. While the M-55's were unavailable, we switched to Cooper Discoverer ST's on the 2005 trucks (they're E rated). I've got 5000 km on mine currently - had them rotated yesterday while truck was in for service - still look new, but I heard some comments from others that they're not wearing as well as the Toyo M-55's. More mileage on them help me form my own opinion on the Coopers.

why do you have to have an e rating? the d rated 315 will hold the same amount of weight, more in some cases.

I have heard people complain about sidewall flexing in the past, but i think if you are concerned with that notion then you should have strongly considered buying a DRW instead of a SRW.

While I'm sure I'll probably just go with a D-Rated all terrain, if I can find an E-rated one. I'll be there.
yeah i always seem to go with the biggest that will fit stock, but you do loose a little MPG. I did not notice very much power loss at all though.
I was going to go back with a 285 (instead of another set of 315) but i would have to change out my spare and pay $ to have my speedo changed again.

I wish the tire makers would make 75, 80, or 85 series tires that would fit our 17in rims and be available in E ratings. That way we could go with a taller but not wider tire.

Michelin seems to be offering a 235/80 17 in a load range E, in their LTX M&S tire. The ST steel rims will work with it but the aluminum wheels won't. IT looks like a dually tire.

and that was the AT, he said the MT would be more and have to special order them.
I paid just over $1300.00 for the 4 tires, and $150.00 for the mounting and road force balance. Before you panic remember thats in Canadian Pesos. The tread is more aggressive than I wanted, but I need the load capacity. Had good timing too, the next day we got 6" of snow.
Tweeter, what size and tire did you end up with. I'm running 4 265 70 17 and 2 235 80 17 on my dually, all Cooper s/t. Price varies alot here. I got them at my local country garage for $295 cdn installed and ballanced. (not studded) So far they are the best wearing tire. I got 60k km on them so far and they are at 13 tread depth starting at 19. I'll ridem till the carcass scream just like the originals. Kerry

Drew03, Yep they are within .1 of an inch when new. I have them both on my Duals. The tire I would like to have and I think they would sell a ton would be the 255 85 17... That would be a 34 inch tire 10.25 wide. No rubs even offroading without a lift and great in snow and mud. ks




They just don't seem that big anymore
