Dumping waste motor oil into the fuel tank...

I love the fact my truck does not have all the emmisions equipment of the newer trucks. It gets almost as good if not better mileage than the newer trucks and I can trhow just about anything in the tank as far as WMO and not have to worry. The FASS takes out all of the junk after the prefiltering. I will look into the bags though, that is something I didn't know was out there. Great info on the filterbags Mike, thanks!
I've put in as high as 20 gallons of WMO in my truck. But I do it a bit differently. I premix the WMO with Kerosene (10-15%) and filter to 5um or below before adding it to my tank. I've figured that with that mix that the tank percentage was greater than 50%. I've found that the truck has less start up issues when premixing the WMO with Diesel or Kerosene before putting it into the tank compared to just putting in straight WMO (unless moring temps are above 70*). I'm still waiting to get more money to put a FASS or AirDog system onto my truck for added insurance.
just got back from a 1500 mile round trip... Tulsa to Denver
ran 75-80 mph almost all the way... avg 18 mpg with 35-40% waste oil mix. when I slowed down to 65 for a stretch... mileage went up to 20 mpg... if I slowed down more mileage will go up yet.
getting comfortable with running 50% mix of waste oils. my preference is ATF... cleaner and more importantly thinner. #2 diesel's main role is to thin down the waste oils.
all waste oil have been dumped straight into tank without filtering.
have increased frequency for fuel filter change to monitor. so far no problems with zero waste oil pretreatment.
I've got a engine oil flush machine sitting here to bulk filter waster oils. but have not used it due to zero problems with dumping waste oil straight into tank.
have ran up to 90% waste oils, but don't go that thick. you will clog up injectors.
NOTE: my experiences is with a 12valve... general rule of thumb is... newer the vehicle... the more sensitive to fuels..
seems hotter cummins runs... the better it runs.... sure wish I could find a higher temp thermostat...
does anyone know of a source for a higher temp thermostat? thinking of taking off my fan and running in summer without a fan blade and/or switch to a electric fan.
there's thermo fan switches available at all sorts of temps.

I agree that the Cummins runs better when hot but I feel like any hotter would be too hot. Yes it will run better but there comes a point when the heat does more harm than good. I would be uncomfortable if mine ran any hotter than it already does.....very little room in the event that it started to overheat.
I am sitting hear reading all of this and i am very suprised.i have never heard of running used motor oil in the fuel tank,What benefit does this have?I work in a transmission shop and could have all the fluid i want if i wanted it.I am new to the diesel truck thing but i cant believe what im reading!!!!!!!Are you guys yankin my chain or what?
It's true. Been done for many many years. Mainly on larger engines where 10 gallons + is harder to get rid of and can easily go right into the fuel tank.
Just filter the crap out of the waste oil and use in small doses, like 2-3 gallons per tank with the common rail system.

ATF is my favorite!!!
cleaner, thinner... and comes in larger quantities

I skipped from the first to the last page here to read the newest posts. I plan on buying a $135 centerfuge from PAbiodiesel.com and doing a good run through that 50diesel/50wastoil. I'll start at lower % and work my way up. The centrifuge filters down to 1/2 micron and processes about 55gal/hr. If I ran a barrel of half old oil and filled it #2diesel for 3 hours it would pass that whole barrel 3x and should be filtered to 1/2 micron. I'll let ya know if it works. Give bme a bit and I'll send pics too. Haven't bought it yet.
