Dodge air filter?

Dodge air filter?
The stock filter has a 1/2" fiber pre filter on it. Is this necessary? NAPA Gold does not have the pre filter. Dodge sells the filter for $20. Any info would be appreciated.

don't worry about it... some of the mopar filters people have gotten from the dealer didn't have the prefilter foam piece..
