Do 3rd gen hubs unlock?

when i put truck in 4h or 4l obviously both front & rear diffs are being driven. when i put truck in 2H does the front driveshaft and u joints still turn? even the ujoints at the knuckles/spindles? do they turn? isnt that alot of wasted fuel mileage when in 2wd?

Some guys that have swapped to aftermarket disconnect hubs have reported mileage gains in that ballpark. Those kits are pricey though so you have to look at what might be cheaper, the kit or the amount of fuel you burn and the cost of replacing ujoints when they fail.

Yes everything still turns and yes, it does rob mileage. Aren't you glad you asked? Thanks Dodge

Consider the free wheel kit when the front hubs go, which they will, and then the hit is offset by the hit for the new hubs and makes it easier to take.

Yeah, if you loose a wheel bearing, just go with the manual hubs. It will be a lot cheaper next time you need wheel bearings and you'll have less wear and tear on your front end.

Thank Dodge, yeah right; thank the majority of the lazy American public. They are to busy talking on their cell phones and shoving french fries to get out and lock a set of hubs in.
