Dumb tranny ?'s

I have a 47re tranny and want to know the fluid capacity. Also the capacity of the 48re. How hard is it to adjudt the bands in these trannys or do I need to take it to a service person? TIA

The 47 and 48 fluid capacities are the same. Probably 7-8 qts. for drain/refill w/stock pan. It's better to have your trans. flushed by a shop in my opinion. It gets most of the fluid out of the converter as well as the trans. body. Make sure they replace the filter and use ATF +4.

If you prefer doing your own maintenance you can disconnect the return from the cooler at the tranny (slide the "nut" back on the line and slide a piece of old garden hose over the end to direct fluid into catch container) and start the engine in neutral to accomplish pretty much the same thing.

It is the rear line on the driver's side of the tranny. Takes about 45-50 seconds for my 48re to pump out/through one gallon. I purchase extra fluid and pump through one gallon at a time.
