Exclamation Differential Noise

I just changed my diff oils 4x4 with Castrol Syntec 75w-90 oil. After the change I put her in 4x4 and was in the snow and let off the clutch kinda fast and I heard a noise like a clatter from the front end. I then went in reverse and forward again to duplicate the sound again, which it did. I then drove around the block and did the same thing again (parallel parking on a pile of snow, roads not plowed here) and the noise seemed to not happen again. My question is what do you think the noise was? The book said not to use additive in the diffs.
should I have in the front? any help would be great

No additive needed but I think it is now recommended to put 75w-110 or 75w-140 in the rear. If your in cold snow country and don't tow heavy should be fine. Not sure about the noise. I know if I drop the clutch in 4x4 in the snow, sometimes i get wheel hop in the rear and slight chatter up front, but its just from tires hunting for traction. If at full crank on the steering while in 4x4 sometimes i get a little binding/hop up front and slight noise also. Fluid change shouldn't have caused a problem unless you got dirt/debris in diff while cover was off.... Was transfer case locked in all the way?

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Do you think the transfer case chain is streched? Will make a heck of a "clatter" as chain slips over gears. Might not do it every time use 4H.

from more reading on here it sounds kinda normal. When you go in reverse then forward right away the front diff will make some noise as the gears are re aligning hope this is what I'm hearing

Maybe I'm not understanding your description of the noise, but no, you shouldn't be hearing any noise from the front diff going from reverse to forward while the gears are "aligning"; they are designed to always be in "alignment".

Are you sure its the front diff thats making the noise? And not the transfer case grinding because it wasn't fully engaged?

Re-read Bradlers response; he nailed everything right there. Anything more (noise) doesn't sound good to me.

ok I guess I might have a problem, what would cause the transfer case to not engage correctly? I just did a oil change there too

Does your 07´ have the manual transfer case lever or the "push button" 4x4? Sounds like maybe you didn't have the transfer case locked all the way and it was slipping, then locked in. Have you tried locking in the 4x4 and driving around some more to see if it does it again?

my girlfriend seems to think it sounds like I am starting to stall the engine, it kinda sounds like that but almost like the noise is lower, I am going to go out later and re check the fluid levels in the diffs, transfer case and tranny, see how that goes, oh it has the electronic shift for transfer case

This noise is new, I presume?

If you are turning sharp in 4x4, and the surface is less than super-slick, the tires can kind of chatter...

In regard to the limited slip additive, the type of limited slip in the rear axle doesn't require additive, but one of the guys at Redline told me the additive won't hurt anything and is actually slippery and reduces temps at the gear's contact area...
