rear differential noise

When I shift into reverse and let out the clutch I hear a distinct click. Dealer has had vehicle two times now and no success. Regional Dodge people say "Do not replace the rear differential but wait and see what happens"

This is unacceptable. Has anyone else had this problem?

03 3500 slt Cummins HO 6sp 4:10 4X4 Limited slip

Re:rear differential noise

Common noise in limited slip. Mostly noticeable in reverse. Kind of a poping noise when you are backing up, then push the clutch in with the truck still rolling. You may want to check the rear fluid level. I do belive you have synthetic from the factory. My 2002 - 2500 does it even after swap from regular to sythetic fluid and 10 oz. of limited slip additive. Sometimes it even does it in tight turns going forward.

Tim

Re:rear differential noise

My 99 makes the exact same clicking noise. It only clicks once every time you change the direction of travel, forward to reverse or reverse to forward. Mine is an automatic and has done this since the first time I backed up with the windows down so I could hear it. I checked to make sure the u-joints were OK and they seem to be fine. It's kind of a tinny sounding click. ??? Any other opinions?

Dennis

Re:rear differential noise

Thank you for the information. This is my 4th Ram and the first time I have had any problem at all. I do question that the differential in the 03 is new to Dodge, which makes me wonder. Sure is quiet running with a real increase in power.
Thanks again.
