??? on Derale Pan

Do have to install the filter extender with the Derale Pan ? Seems if the transmission fluid stay at level the extender is no advantage ???

I think it depends on how much it adds.
The deeper the pan, the more you would tend to move towards needing an extension.

The purpose of having the filter close to the bottom of the pan is to make sure the pick up is always covered. If it's near the top, there's a chance that you'll get a leak and the level drops, or be on a hill steep enough to uncover the pick up.

If all goes well, and you're on fairly level ground, you can leave the filter where it is.

Not exactly. With a stock pan, it's full with, say, 3qts. If you add to the bottom of the pan, the top level is still the same, so the dipstick stays the same. But now full is , say, 5 qts, and not 3.

If Budweiser added 4" to the bottom of the bottle, would it still be the same?

like I said full on the dipstick is still full just would take more to reach that point. That is where the filter picks up when stock as long as it is full it will have more fluid in the pan under it.

If you run to deep a pan w/o a filter extension, you can run a chance of not getting fluid to the pump if off angle.

I believe the pan in question is two extra qts?

That may be OK?!

So you would have this problem with the stock pan too? I dont think so full is still full if the filter is in the same place and the LEVEL of fluid is still the same!! Think about it the only reason to put an extension on would be to suck fluid from lower in the pan that is not where I want to pull my fluid from the bottom is where debris lies!!
