B&M Derale or LPW transmission pan

I'm getting ready to do a transmission service to adjust bands, adjust line pressures, change filter and add a temperature sensor. I was all set to buy the Derale trans pan when I found this LPW cast aluminum pan for another $10. Both pans have the drain plug and temperature sensor port which is the main reason I was looking to change the pan.

I just wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts on either pan, I found a few posts here on the Derale, all good reviews except for one that started to rust.

Here is the LPW, cast aluminum and adds 2 qts capacity

http://www.jegs.com/i/L.P.W./619/501-518/10002/-1

and the Derale, painted steel and adds 5 qts capacity

I do have the factory trans cooler and live in the northeast so the cooling and extra capacity isn't really a top priority.

Just got the derale installed, got it for $112 shipped, but the LPW sounds like a better one, would prefer aluminum for the price. Too late.

Guess I'll add another option to the mix too, not sure why I never found these before.

B&M aluminum pan, adds 4 quarts.

After searching around I found a review that says it includes the extention, filter, pan bolts and that it is already tapped for the 1/8" temp sensor even though it isnt listed. I will give them a call tomorrow no make sure but it looks like this is what I am going to do now.

Called B&M today, it does have the port for a temperature sensor. comes with two extensions for 727 or a518 trans. Includes all mounting hardware and even the filter.

I read that its a 4 qt increase for a 727 but only 1 qt for the a518 which must have a deeper pan to start with for the OD section, this is just what I have read from other sites and forums but it seems to be consistent info.

I am going to try it out and see how it goes.

That's a great deal, IF it comes with filter, filter extensions, bolts and a rubber gasket, not a cheap cork one like that included in the Derale. But beware there are so many variations of this product, even ones that show a cork gasket, no filter, etc. You may end up spending over $160 for everything.

What came with the Derale? I see that stuff all listed separate for them, was it just the pan?

On the B&M it is a cork gasket but everything else is suppose to be included, we will know for sure next week.

The Derale came with the pan, the cork gasket and a 1/8 plug for the temp bung for $112 shipped. Luckily, The filter I bought separately came with a better rubber gasket.

I think the filter extender is a bad idea. The farther the filter is from the bottom of the pan, the less likely the filter will pick up debris from the pan.

BTW the Summit Racing link you have shows a rubber gasket. That's how confusing the B&M product is. I remember now I got frustrated with it and went Derale.

The pan was delivered! Looks great too.

Along with the pan is a filter, two filter extensions for the 727 or 518 trans, longer mounting screws for the filter, there is stainless mounting bolts with Allen heads and washers for the pan itself, and a cork gasket.

The pan does have a 1/8" npt port for the temp sensor or they send a plug for it.

The drain plug has a little magnetic tip and a rubber inserted sealing washer.

Here are some photos if your interested:

it cost about the same at jc whitney, summit or jegs. I went through summit, $135, jegs had a delay in availability.

The B&M pn: 10280 is the same wherever you get it, the tech support at B&M was very good and answered all my questions on the pan. Give them a call if there is any doubts on the specifics their products. He said they changed the pan kit several years ago even though every other add shows a different photo and doesnt list what is actually included.

The photos should be approved soon.
