Death Wobble Gone! (finally)

Just thought I owed it to the board to post the results of my quest to fix the death wobble.
I took it to Larry Miller Dodge (Phoenix) and they had the front-end guy check everything out. He said everything was still good on the front end and sent me on my way. The very next day I had the BFG TA/KO's rotated and balanced and immediately got a permanant case of the death wobble over 60 mph. I drove it straight back to Dodge anticipating a real battle, but they went out of their way to hear me out. The Service director went with me for a 15 mile ride, and of course it wouldn't do it while he was in the truck. When we returned to the dealer, he got the Service Director involved. He assured me that if I put "E" rated tires on the truck I wouldn't have the problem anymore. He offered to LOAN me a set of wheels to try out. They pulled my truck in the back and swapped them out on the spot! The new tires made ALL the difference in the world! I forgot how nice the truck could ride! I ended up buying the new wheels for a ridiculously low price. I needed a new set of tires anyway. I know tires are not the only fix for the DW, but it worked for me.

Glad you got it fixed but "Permanent case of DW over 60" that you couldnt recreate on a 15 mile drive. Plenty of people complained of DW with stock e rated tires.

I test drove a new 4x4 dually one ton at Larry Miller Dodge with a wobble in the front end. They were giving such a good deal on it I pointed out the wobble and asked if they could fix it (the salesman who took the test drive with me agreed it needed to be fixed). The sales manager said he didn't think it needed anything and said, "Buy it like it is, that's what the warranty is for." I said, "If you won't make it right before the purchase, why would I believe you'd make it right after?"

I went to another Dodge dealer and have since purchased 4 trucks from them for work in the past three years.

Glad to hear you had a better experience there though.

I have a buddy right now whose 2007 has 6K on it and has developed the DW. Matter of fact he can't let his wife drive it. Has taken it back to the dealership 3 times and they still have not found anything. Obvious things like tires pressure I checked, but anyone found the smoking gun yet on this. Only 6K, completely stock, no weight in the bed.

I'd have them replace the track bar bushings and check the ball joints.

I'll talk to him later today and see if they'll replace the track bar bushings. I know they checked ball joints, my first guess as well.

I did everything to mine to stop it and after steering stabilizers and all that everyone said could cause it, new tires took care of it!

That is also my guess. But this dealership is never going to replace the tires!! Probably going to have to find another dealership!

i am on my second set of bf goodrich ta/ko;s, size 285/17/70's- these are d rated tires. i have almost 80,000 miles on my truck and i have never experienced DW. my truck tracks down the road perfect. it is smooth as glass. for some reason- some guys get the infamous DW, other guys do not. i guess i am lucky!!

I had D rated BFG ATs from an H2 that resulted in death wobble, tires were rebalanced and it didn't make a difference. Switched to Toyos and problem's gone- thankfully.
