Death wobble GONE

I have had the dreaded DW for 40000 miles now on my truck. And as so many on here have stated, it was EXTREMELY bad several times. It got the point where I was actually scared to drive 70 at all. I would NOT let my wife drive it at all for fear that she might not no what to do when it happened. I have done several things to try to cure the problem and while some might have help ever so little, nothing got rid of it. That is till last week. IF YOU HAVE BFG TIRES AND HAVE DW, GET RID OF THEM. I replaced my 315 bfg at with some 35" nitto grapplers, which are bigger tires, and replaced the front shocks(back not in yet) with bilstein 5100 series and OH what a difference. Drove about 500 miles this weekend on some rodes that I KNEW would cause dw and I didnt have any. I was able to set my cruise on 85 and drive with my finger for the first time in a year. I am also going to replace a few of the components in the steering linkage and get the Thuren steering stabilizer and that should make the ride so much better than new. The problem with the BFG tires is the sidewall is so weak and flemsy. Now I still might have some other problem that is contributing to the DW but atleast I cant feel it and FINALLY feel safe in my truck.

Not the first time I've heard the BFG's in the 315 size caused death wobble. I've got 285's and have never had it on my truck. I did ride in Luvnacumns' truck and he had 315's with DW . Scary stuff.

Well, you actually did 2 things, replaced your shocks and your tires, so to say it was just the tires causing DW??

I have run BFG 315's on several different vehicles (2 Fords, 2 Jeeps, 1 Dodge) and wracked up a lot of miles with them throughout many years and have never had DW on any of those vehicles.

I have them now on my 2006 Dodge 3500, have 25K on them, and have had NO problems. When I installed the KORE Leveling kit, I also installed Bilstein shocks that came in the kit and did the rear shocks with Bilsteins at the same time.

There are plenty of people out there with stock tires and they HAVE a problem with DW. Schools still in session as to why some have DW and some don't. People have cured it with a new track bar. Others have cured it with a new steering dampner shock. Some with front shocks. Not that 2 people have not cured it with the same thing, but many have cured it with many different things. I was in a friends Dodge truck that had DW, he was running stock everything - the truck had 1K miles on it at the time -bare to the bone stock truck.

yeah yeah yeah... Public ridicule, the best form of education. I am working on it, hopefully have it cleared up in a week or so. Anybody in the northern NJ area interested in some great condition BFG A/T's in a 315 size?

I actually had the tires on about a week before the shocks came in and I did notice a difference with just them. I was in no way suggesting that BFG are the sole cause of DW nor did I say that if you are running them to get rid of them. I said if you are running them and have dw, then change. Great that you dont. I too have run BFG tires on many different rides with no problems but this one didnt turn out so good. However it seems that a very large portion of folks that are running them have had or probably will have some trouble. DW has alot to do with the flexing of the sidewall (which can also be generated by underinflated tires). You will probably find that most(notice I said MOST) trucks that have a dw problem are running d rated tires. Not saying that if you are running d rated tires you will have the prob. My new ones are d rated. The nittos thats I am now running have a much stiffer sidewall. And as far as those that have dw running all stock, yes it does happen. So do transmission failures on stockers while some modded rides have had no problems yet. There will always be problems with EVERY manufactured truck of some kind. Some get it some dont. But it is evident that the majority of our trucks with DW have been modded in some way.

My 35" Nittos have been nothing but a pleasure to own and drive. I have added a dual steering stabilizer (helped some) different alignment specs, new shocks ect.... each helped but the Nittos were the final peice.

I had H2/bfg315's and could make DW happen on command over certain areas in my way home. I put stock tires back on at 75lbs, kept leveling kit and its smooth as glass and at much higher speeds, I can't make it happen now.

I used to be scared to go over 70 too! Now the only thing that scares me is the milage drop!

I've run BFG's on just about every rig I've had and never had death wobble, the only time I've experienced it was on my Jeep Cherokee but that was track bar related.
