well it's official. took it to dodge, they said all 6 were shot, and needed to be replaced. and it would cost 3700 for the entire job. funny thing is, they never did a flow test, because they said it would cost as much to test each injector as it would to replace them.
someone pointed me to a diesel shop here in town, the did the flow test (along with every other test known to man) on the rig, everything passed except for 5 injectors (CP3, lift pump, pressure relief valve). so right off the bat, dodge is off by one, then this shop says it will cost 260 bucks. to replace them (obviously it will be 2000 for the new injectors) so $2,260 bucks, as opposed to $3700.
man....the dealer tried to rip me off by $1440! sweet!
anyway, thanks to JeepManIowa for pointing me to the diesel shop.
at least now I have the problem solved.

You only get new tips for that price, I believe. They can probably rebuild your injectors at the same time for less money though! I think around $100 a piece to rebuild them is going rate if done at the same time as the tips.

Once you get your injectors replaced make sure you use a good fuel filter like the Baldwin PF7977 or if you can't get one then a Fleetguard Stratapore. The Baldwin is 2 microns and it is absolute at 5 microns, its 98.7% efficient, the Fleetguard Stratapore is 7 microns and its 96% efficient at 5 microns. BTW, both are good at stripping water out of diesel fuel where some on the market are not. FYI, Cummins back in June of 2006 required that we use no less then a 7 micron water separating fuel filter.
I'm glad to read that you know for sure what your problem is, but I hate to read how much $$$ it cost to fix it. Heard you all got 12+ inches of snow in your area but we sure didn't

we did get some snow, I think it was more like 6" in my neck of the woods (right next to drake), but it was snow none the less.
I cant catch a break on the injectors though...for a second I thought I was getting away with being able to install aftermarket performance for more than half off the price, but apparently its the injector HOLDER that has erroded enough to let to much fuel leak back past the ball...that make sense? so the mechanic says after market injectors wont solve the problem....anyone think otherwise? or shall I just fork out the cast for the stock cummins setup and watch them errode over time again?
Call Don M @ F1.........He'll get you new tips and rebuild the injectors for around $1800. Takes a week or so with all the mail time and such, but you'll have the best set of injectors available. He can probably answer some of your other questions too. Very knowledgable man. He is a DTR advertiser as well. You may try to PM him here, but a phone call would be quicker. Look him up @ www.F1diesel.com

man, somehow I got confused, Don M. is not mid atlantic diesel. someone mentioned F1 injectors, I googled that, and found mid atlantic. I will call Don M. now and see what I can find out. thanks!
Call any of the vendors. They'll have his number. I don't think the vendors do any of the rebuilding. They can get credit even if you go straight thru him. Just pick the vendor that's closest to you.
lmills is Mid Atlantic Diesel......... Give him a ring. He sells for Don M and can hook you up. Just go to www.midatlanticdiesel.com for the phone number......
By the way, send them all in to be rebuilt. That last good one is sure to be on it's last leg....pulse so to speak.
