Dealer rip off on liftpump replacement

My lift pump went out at 87,500. I had it towed to the dealer. They replaced the lift pump and charged me $100.00. I read my warranty manual after getting some info here. The warranty says on pg 10, the $100 fee will only be charged after 5 years. ( my truck is a 04)

I went back to the dealer today the service advisor told the $100 was a diagnostic service fee. I said this is BS. The Service Manager was out. I will call him tomorrow

I charged it so I will fight it through the credit card company.

Anyone else have this problem?

Well sorry yall are having bad experiences with your dealers, now days there really are too many of them out there that just screw the customer anyway they can. Good news is that there are still some good one out there like the one i work at and yep im also the diesel tech there so all I have to do all day long is work on our trucks. It does sound like the both of you were screwed by the places you took your trucks to, especially on that injector problem, i mean yeah we have had ALOT of problems with the 04.5-07 injectors, but if the injector was the problem then new ones should have fixed it. Too bad their tech is an idiot. Plus as long as you haven't exceeded your 5 year 100,000 mile Cummins engine warranty then it shouldnt have cost you a dime anyways. Those people are screwed up. You should contact Chrysler about them and get your money back.

yeah, its true, there are always good ones somewhere, I just seem to find the bad ones all the time. I think the good ones should get the bad ones salary everytime they screw up and try and rip someone off. then the incentive to be good is greater.

That is WAY TOO TRUE!!!!!! Unfortunately at some dealerships they dont have techs that are up to date on the trucks out there or if they are they usually only know about gasser stuff and nothing or not very much about diesels. Also I have met guys that say a diesel is a diesel which anyone that knows much about these things knows that is not true. Im not afraid to admit that I am most efficient with the 3rd gen common rails than a 1st or 2nd gen. Yeah ive worked on both of the others and built some strong and powerful engines in both 1st and 2nd gens but my passion is with the 3rd gens. Partially because that is what I currently own plus im kinda a technology junkie and the 3rd gens are where all of the new toys are. I know of one tech for a fact that is really proficient with the 12 valves but doesnt really have much of a clue on the common rails. He had a customers truck come in out of warranty that would surge while driving and at idle would knock worse than a 12 valve. This guy who's truck this is dad is telling me this story. It turns out that this guy had his kids truck for 4-6 weeks and replaced injectors (with the EXPENSIVE stockers) , then he replaced the lift pump with a STOCK RETRO KIT (better than original but still not as good as aftermarket) , then he replaced the injector wiring harnesses and BOTH engine wiring harnesses along with the ECM, a grand total of nearly $8000 in parts and another 2000 in labor. And here comes the real kicker, it still didnt run correctly. All I could do was shake my head and walk over to my tool box and grab an extra FCA, Rail Pressure sensor, and pressure relief valve and hand the guy and told him how to install them and where to start. If any or all fixed the problem he could pay me for that part and call it even. Well it turns out the the FCA was sticking and is caused the relief valve to "POP OFF" too many times and go bad too. After it was all said and done he was super happy with me but is now suing the other guy for everything. Sorry about the horror story but just figured that i would let you know that just because they are working at a dealership doesnt always mean that they are knowledgeable about what they are doing, and that goes for techs at private shops such as the one in this case too. Best advise i can give you is educate yourself as best as you can so when you do need to take it to someone you know enough to know if they know what they are talking about.

I imagine they are telling YOU exactly what Chryslers computer data is telling them. I bet I can take your VIN, run the part number to verify warranty coverage, and it WILL show a $100 deduct. Just a guess at this point, but I'm betting I'm right. Deal with this quite a bit. Sometimes we can get the $100 back for the customer, sometimes not.

dealer rip off on liftpump replacement

I called the Service Manager today after 9:00 so his morning rush would be over. He said he would look at it and get back to me. He was away from his desk on a cell phone. We will see.

Another reason to pay with a credit card. I (and I get the flyer miles)
