dead pedal?

Hey guys my buddy has an 03 cummins 6spd and when he's driving he will hit about 2k rpm and it starts to cut out. I am more familiar with 2nd gens so I figured I would ask, does this sound like the apps needs reset? Or do 3rd gens even have that? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Is he still running stock fuel pump? Fuel filter new? What's the fuel pressure when engine cuts out? Also check your air filter these engines like to breath and they will suck a plugged filter into the intake.

Yes he's runnin a stock LP but it is new as well as a new fuel filter.. the fuel pressure im not sure of I know he doesn't have a fp gauge (yes i know it is crucial to have one) and he has a new bhaf not 100% Sure if it is installed or not yet I have not had a chance to check it out but the way he explained it it sounded a lot like a dead pedal like on 2nd gens.. is the tps a common problem with 3rd gens? Thanks for the reply

Not usually but APP sensor will set code if there is a problem. Is CEL on? any codes? Check for a restriction in the air inlet / intake system.

I just got off the phone with him and there is no cel and the intake is free of any restriction with the new bhaf installed, now is there a way like on the 2nd gens. to check for codes by cycling the key on/off two-three times and leaving on to check for codes that do not trip the light?

You can try, that's 3 key on to see if any codes are stored.

ok so he cycled the key and came up with 2 dtc's.. P0483- Fan speed as well as, P0107- Manifold Absolute Pressure/BARO Sensor Low Input

P0107 is the boost pressure sensor located in the top of intake manifold. one small torx screw holds it in place. It also measures air temp so it is two sensors in one. That could cause fueling problems. You can monitor this sensor with a scanner if you know someone that has one. It will defuel engine if it is not working properly. Sending over boost or under boost signal to ECM if not reading boost pressure properly. Most likely a bad sensor but here is test procedure, sensor is not that expensive to replace. use a jumper wire or paper clip to connect the 5 volt supply circuit with the signal circuit at the sensor harness connector. If the code switches to a P0108 volts high then replace the sensor.

BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR (DIESEL) - 3 WAY CAV CIRCUIT FUNCTION
1 K72 18DG/OR 5 VOLTS SUPPLY
2 K9 18LB FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR 5 VOLT SUPPLY
3 K55 18LB/WT MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR SIGNAL
