You have a vaccum leak. Check the line from the vaccum pump (behind passenger battery) to the cruise dashpot under the drivers side battery. The plastic line has been noted for having a hole rubbed in it in spots.

Was it leaking before? If so, the pump may be on the way out. So, is this the second time you have had issues? You normaly will hear the pump run at the turn on of the key, if it runs continuously, you have an issue. (bad pump or another leak)

Do you hear the pump running on the first key on of the truck in the morning? Does the pump run all the time? You may have a bad pump. Normally if you have a leak and don't get it fixed quickly the pump will wear itself out.

I do not want to jack your thread. My vacuum pump runs 100% at key on, I do not know when the engine is running. My cruize worked once yesterday then nothing. I checked by the pump, did not find any leaks. I did notice the air linet that goes into the truck- about the middle of the firewall between the driver and passenger. I guess the only way to diagnose the problem is to see to seperate the T and try to pull a vacuum with a brake bleeder. I would assume if I hook up the brake bleeder to the pump that it should tell me if the pump has taken a crap. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. The other day I did remove the drivers side battery - maybe a line came apart and I did not notice it.

I found this thread because I also have a cruise control not working. With information found here I've discovered my vacuum pump is not working. First it is not running with the key on or with the motor running. Checked there is power to the pump, and after I took it off I connected power to the pump and it still does not run.
Went to dealer and they want $256 for new one, sounds nuts. I'm looking for a cheaper place to buy. Is it worth looking at a used one?
