Is this covered under 100k engine warranty
Folks,
I’m having issues with my first Dodge diesel at only a year of ownership…
Not sure if I am covered under warranty or not. If anyone has gone through this, please let me know.
I bought a 2004.5 diesel last year(February). I have 40k miles on it(a lot of trips to the deer lease). Yesterday, my check engine light came on and stayed on. I got the code and it says..
The PCM has determined that the input voltage from the fuel rail pressure sensor is out of range. ( code # P0191)
I tried to talk with my dealer today to see if it was covered under the 100k engine warranty. They would not tell me much over the phone. So I thought I would go there early in the morning to see. I want to drive it out of town this weekend, but I'm leery now. The service guy said it is fine to drive until the check engine light starts flashing. I don’t want to be in Tim-buck-two when that happens.
Thanx folks,
David

Not much help as far as the code itself... but wehter it's covered by the 100K warranty or not, even though you're just past the 3/36 bumper to bumper, you're still well within the 7/70 powertrain.
Well, I went out and saw that one of my off road light wires(insulated) looked to be touching a set of wires by the brake resesovoir/firewall area. I moved the wire away from this area. I turned the key over . The engine light came on and then started blinking. I turned off the key, then started the truck. The light went off.
Not sure what happened. The code is still there though.

Rail pressure sensor is definitely covered under 100k/5 year warranty.
Dealer needs to check your truck to make sure you haven't had a pressure box plugged in that sent the rail pressure over the limit in the PCM. If you've always been stock, you won't have a prob.

- unless you just happened to have a bad connetion at the fire wall AND when you moved the wires for your extra lights it jiggled just the right wire which contains the signal for the fuel rail pressure sensor -
By the way P0191 is discussed in the last few weeks on this forum, I posted it because I had the code but no CK engine light. do a search on P0191 within the last 2 weeks and you'll find it. There was a guy who had it and got it fixed. HIS fix was, and please take this with a grain of salt, the delaer had found some wires rubbing the AC lines - I don't know if the wires were the signal wires for the rail pressure sensor or if the wires were rubbed through to copper and shorting.
Good luck.
I'll be bringing mine in next time I'm out of town to get it checked out - I'll post if the dealer can do anything good.
I've seen the ac rubbing thing to. Except there are a few more sensors than just the rail pressure sensor on the ac clutch circuit. When it happend to subject truck, it had cam/crank sensor faults too. It would misfire really bad when it happened but you had to about drive it over a parking block to get it to act up. Very difficult to diagnose, but worth looking into. It took us forever to figure it out.
