Question Correct mileage

Looking at a 2003 HO six-speed 4X4 with very low miles. I'm wondering if the mileage is correct. Is there a way to disconnect the VSS and still drive? Would a code be stored? Would the code still be in the system after a battery disconnect? The hours on this one are fairly low, but it still doesn't add up. The seat looks to have more miles than the ODO.

Do a carfacts vin search. It will give you the mileage. You can also take the vin to the repair dept. and have them look it up. They can give you printout of all maintenance and the mileage will also show what it was at the last time it was in the shop.

So if it hasn't been to the shop, or the owner has done all his own maintenace, I'm pretty much at the mercy of his (or the dealer's) word?

I know I was told my '02 Z-71 would not shift into OD without a signal from the VSS. I never tried it, it's illegal and dishonest. But the HD I'm wanting has a 6-speed. Low miles, but a fair amount of seat and pedal wear.

Yeah; that hasn't changed since people have been buying used vehicles.

Any idea what the previous owner did with the truck? Reminds me of those Air Force truck stories where they're 20 years old and low miles, because they've only been used to shuttle back and forth to aircraft on the apron.

Do a VIN check and run the ECM codes to see if that sheds any light. I'm not sure if its possible to tell if the ECM is a replacement to the original. Any evidence of bombing that might take the truck out of warranty?

What was the build date? How many miles? How many hours? I'm curious now...

If you're still not satisfied or willing to take the risk, then walk. There's all kinds of trucks available.

Yeah I see what you mean. Ijust found an 03 in Tenn. with 53 total miles on it. Everything that I want, but '03 used with 53 miles? Kinda scares me.

53 miles?

Is that 53, 530 ,5300mi. how much pedal wear is there? with 53 miles, it should be pristine! it is possible(i.e buyer bought truck , dealer titled it, buyer brought it back for one reason or another?) once a vehicle has been titled, it is considered to be used even if only driven 1 mile.
