guage readings correct
I just installed a Pyro and boost guage. The readings I am getting are these. With it warmed up, driving on flat at 60 mph, pyro 800-900, boost 4. Going over a overpass, pyro goes to 900-1000, boost 7. If I punch it to 70 mph, pyro 1200, boost can go as high as 18 otherwise 15. Going around town at 40 mph, no boost, pyro 600 to 900. Going up a very very steep hill in town for four blocks, pyro 1300, boost 10.
Are these normal readings yes no maybe
I am running stock airfilter and exhaust.
Thanks for the help

What kind of turbo do you have, and what housing? Those cruising temps seem a little high, I cruise at 65 around 650*.
Is your truck intercooled?
I can make 30psi at 1250*, so 18psi at 1200 seems a little hot.
PS: Make sure and stay below 1250*.

It is intercooled and I am pre-turbo.
I have a 93, 2 wd, extended cab, auto, 106000 miles on engine, no mods yet. I bought a K&N but i am waiting to put it in till I have stock readings to compare to.
Sorry about no signiture, trying to figure out how

Make sure and put that intake in pronto, and also GET RID OF THE MUFFLER! Those are the two basic things. Then maybe a mandrel bent exhaust system (they aren't very expensive and worth the money) and a turbo.
You need to remember that the more air you get through those cylinders, the cooler your temps will be.

It sounds like you might have a very restricted air filter. I would change that pronto as was already mentioned. And in the same vein, maybe you do have an abnormal exhaust restriction?
If the filter doesn't make a very big difference, I would check to make sure that all of your intake boots are tight -- it would seem to me that you could have a slow leak, because your boost vs EGT numbers seem low unless you are running the engine at lower RPM ranges, which I wouldn't expect with the auto transmission.
A smaller turbo housing would make a BIG difference in the EGT department. Do you have a tach?

Tach is a good idea, I know you have an auto but are you lugging the engine? Mine will upshift to OD around 50MPH, sometimes lower, but doesn't kickdown as easy.

About the turbo.... I have the stock turbo. I would like to get a 16cm housing for it. Is there a difference between one housing and another.
Is a tach really neccesary for a auto diesel??
Thanks for all the other info, it is very useful.

The smaller exhaust housing will make a big difference lowering EGT's at lower RPM's. I am very happy with my 12cm housing -- my egt's stay nice and cool, and I have much, much more low end torque (below 1700 rpm) than I did with the stock housing. A tach is nice, because then you really know how fast your engine is turning, which can be a useful thing to know. You can also use your speedo and the gear ratio to estimate for diagnostic purposes . . .

I heard a rumor there may be some problems with accurate readings from the Isspro pyro gauges. Since it appears you havent done any tweaking yet id talk to them or whoever sold it to you. Also makes me glad i just bought a boost and pyro gauge from isspro.
