Clutch type

I though my 04.5 NV5600 had a standard flywheel with typical single mass clutch pressure plate setup.

However, after talking with a transmission guy that works only on diesel trucks, there is the question of which setup I have. He thinks it is a dual mass clutch setup with an "odd ball" setup of how it is installed making it much harder to install properly.

Does anyone have an idea on which clutch setup I am most likely to have.

The original clutch used with the cast iron NV5600 transmission is a traditional 1 piece solid flywheel, single damped organic friction disk and a diagphram pressure plate.
If I recall correctly, the OEM manufacturer was Valeo.

But if you are not the original owner of the truck who knows what aftermarket clutch is installed.

After buying my wife four new vehicles, she felt guilty enough so this was my first new vehicle. Actually went down to the dealership the vehicle was transferred from so started driving it with only 7.5 on the odometer.

From further research, seems like they didn't go to the odd ball setup until the G56 transmision. Agree?

agree. you need to fill the 5600 two quarts over full of a 50-50 blend of the following. Delo Synthetic Transmission Fluid SAE 50
Delo Synthetic Transmission Fluid SAE 50 delivers exceptional all-climate, year-round performance in heavy duty truck transmissions. A unique additive package can protect gears without using the “active sulfur” agents commonly found in automotive axle oils. This results in little to no corrosion and long life for copper-containing parts, such as oil coolers, bushings, and thrust washers. Good pumpability in extreme hot or cold temperatures promotes smooth shifting and efficient power transfer. It is specifically formulated to meet the latest extended drain requirements for Eaton transmissions, with drain intervals of up to 500,000 miles.
Synchromax is recommended for manual transmissions
that specify an automatic transmission fluid or motor oil.
It is also ideal for transfer cases and 2-cycle motorcycle
gear boxes.
Synchromax is formulated with Royal Purple’s synthetic,
proprietary Synerlec additive technology, offering
improved shift quality over a wide temperature range and
reduced gear noise.
Synchromax is fully compatible with all types of friction
materials and offers excellent corrosion and oxidation
protection without affecting the soft metals commonly
found in manual transmission synchronizers.
Performance Advantages
• Greater wear protection
• Smoother shifts
• Excellent rust / corrosion protection
• Reduces friction for more power
• Lowers operating temperatures

If you do in fact have the 5600 then Reverse is all the way to the right and down......the G56 is just the opposite. The NV5600 is all cast iron where as the G56 is all aluminum....that should help determine what you've got.

The 5600 WILL use a standard single mass flywheel unless someone has added a dual disk setup which changes things a little but not much....but you said the truck was new when you got it so I doubt anything was done to it.

Carl, you must be buying the Delo in five gallon buckets. The Delo site lists Advance and Autozone as a source but their site states no availability.

Yep, it is definitely a NV5600. I had been on the fence about buying the truck when I heard they were going to switch to the G56. So I jumped on one at the end of the year.

Pulled the transfer case off tonight, so the only thing left to pull is the transmission. Figured it was to late to start tonight figuring it was going to take me about 1-1/2 hours taking my time.

Do have a question, where is the balance point of the NV5600? I'm figuring just behind the back edge of the pto cover.

It's actually a lot closer to the front than you might think. The pto covers forward is the best place to put your trans jack. It's HEAVY.....be careful....it if falls...JUST LET IT GO!!!
