Check your injector lines
On the way to work this morning and the #4 injector line blew on the truck...make sure your regularly checking your #4 line.
#4
I had an injector line blow on me about a year ago. Can't remember if it were #4 or #5. Spewed out 15 gallons of #2 driving it home (all of 15 miles for 1 MPG ). Driving home looked like I was fogging the highway to take care of the mosquitoes. My truck had about 125,000 miles on it when this happened.

There are many threads on the #4 injection line coming apart due to a loose
bracket that holds the thing in place. It was more prevalent on the 06 trucks
last year. There are pictures posted with some of the other threads. One is attached. During last year it was happening so much, cummins did not have enough #4 lines in stock to satisfy the demand.

No noise, no warning at all. Was in the middle lane stepped on the pedal to accelerate, pass and move over when i stepped on the pedal i got nothing back. Thought at first it was something with the tranny, moved over and could see in the mirror that I was fogging as I exited. Got almost down to the turn at the light and truck died. Saw some smoke out the front of the truck and got out to have a look. Fuel was pouring out the driver side. Knew immediately it was the injector line.
Fortunately i was not towing and my wife was fairly close by so we had the truck towed down to Enterprise Engine Performance in Thornville, OH and they were able to have the truck fixed in about 30 minutes. I really have to thank the guys at EEP, they are outstanding!!
As far as it being a fairly common thing...I thought it was the 06's that seemed to have the problem?? I guess its 04.5's as well...and Dav is right about Cummins not being able to keep them in stock. According to EEP they try and keep 5-6 of the #4 lines in stock at all times because its such a common problem. Plus they have had issues in the past with getting the lines from Cummins.
So i guess I will check my lines alittle more often! Currently the truck has 167k on it when the #4 line went.

I check mine with a wrench every oil change. They are still original at 340k miles.
This doesnt mean I dont carry a full set of lines.. I do. Picked em up at a wrecking yard. You never know.

Blew the #5 line yesterday on my fathers 04.5. Truck died about a block away from the Dodge dealer. Walked down the road, got the line and replaced it.
That blue plastic clamp was laying beneath the line, they must fall off and the line must vibrate it's self to death or something?

So just what is the problem here with the injection line. Does the isolator fail causing the line to vibrate and fail or is there some deeper underlying issue. I just checked mine, an '06 with 50k. All seems tight and in order. Does the heat cause the plastic/fiber isolator to break down ????
My daughter had one fail last week. She was driving a 2000 5.9 that belongs to the rowing club where she coaches. She was enroute to a championship race in Cincinatti and had a line break. They were towing a trailer full of rowing shells. Road svc was able to get a replacment line and get them back on the road and back home after the races so all's well for the time being. I'm not sure which line failed on that one.
Should I be looking for a handful of isolators to have on hand or fuel line or a complete set of fuel lines for that down the road issue ??? I tow a lot with mine and am on a road trip now. Would like to be prepared for the event when / if it ever comes.
Thanks all,

Does any one know the part numbers for the injector lines and the blue holders? I am always on the road going places and figured I might get a few more spare parts.
