Changing injectors

Got an injector question for you guys.

I have an '03 305 engine and have what I believe to be an injector knocking in the front #1 cylinder. Dealer says it's fine and won't do anything until it basically quits I suppose.

I am not overly mechanically inclined, but do have just enough mechanical knowledge to be dangerous. Was searching EBAY and found a 6-pak set of stock injectors for this engine and got to thinking.

Is there anything special to changing out your own injectors? I guess more to what I am asking, would it be as simple as changing out spark plugs on a gasser or is there more to it than that?

Thanks.

on the first and second gen trucks it is fairly easy on the new common rail injection trucks it is much more difficult and you can easily damage injectors in process probably not what you wanted to hear but just wanted to give you fair warning

Rick,

There is a diesel performance shop in San Angelo. I forgot the name, but I bet they can help you. Im at work, but if I can find it I will reply. I was going to go there to get an EGT gauge.

Its not too hard.
Just have to take your time and watch what you do.
I wrote a small tutorial on changing injectors in a 3rd gen.
It should be on this site somewhere...use the search engine.

rico334,

Are you 100% sure that they are HPCR injectors? I haven't seen many come across E-Bay.

The first and most important requirement is $$$$$ it takes lots of $$$$$, one injector for the 3gen costs more than all 6 of the non-common rail injectors.

Gypsyman -
Yep, your right. I went back and re-read the listing and the injectors are for the 2nd generations. Glad you spoke up before I made a bid on some expensive fishing weights !!

KERMA or Kyle Graham -
How much is $$$$ for these 3rd generation HPCR injectors. I don't find alot of info on them over internet and why does there not seem to much info out there for them or for any to be on EBAY and such?

Thanks.
