I always thought diesel would ignite at a lower temperature then gas and have been told that it will cause detonation.

Other way around, compression in a diesel is much higher. That's why a gas engine needs a spark plug for ignition.

Nope. Throw a match in a bowl of each. Gas has a much lower flash point.

I have the same noise, except when i put her in gear it goes away. Ive had this sound for a long time and no one has been able to help me out.

put diesel in a gas and you will know something is wrong will bairly run if it runs at all cant tel ya how many people have made that mistake and put diesel in there cars and they come in on the hook because it wont run see that alot at our dealership

Yep, like I said, put diesel in a gasser and it gets real quiet..... 'cept for maybe the sound of the starter going round and round....

Ya can't really see it. It is behind where the fan clutch is. The bolt come through the fan clutch, toward the front of the truck. To get to it you have to take the fa, clutch etc off and then an mounting piece.
