Catch & popping noise in steering column

I had to limp back to my house. When I turn my steering wheel there is a popping noise like something catching and it is VERY Difficult to steer. I have went ahead and started removing the trim around the steering column, has anyone had this situation before? Anyone offer any pointers?

The sound is coming from the steering column. Does this help anyone?

I would disconnect steering shaft at gear box first just to make sure it's not gearbox. One bolt then slide coupler up from gear box. If steering wheel still binds then steering shaft could be binding up. Mark it so it is easier to reinstall before sliding off coupler.

It's likely the steering box.

Here is the scoop. I ended up taking my steering column out and the was a chewed up phillips driver bit!!!???!!! I have no idea how it got there unless someone was having a bad day at the factory when my truck was assembled.
