curious about gears
I have an 04 with the the 6 spd in it and 3.73 gears was wondering wat 3.54 gears would be like would that hurt towing very much or more fuel gain empty i pull a 16 foot stock trailer often and 24 foot flatbed with hay but not to often just curious kinda a thought running through my head thanks
If your talking the 03 and up AAM axles there is a 3.42 ratio available.
The 3.54 gear sets are found in Dana axles with an available 3.31 ratio.
I am contemplating this too. At 75 mph I am turning 2175 rpm with my 3.73 6 speed (.73 OD) and 285/70/17s. If I were to switch to 3.42s, 75 mph would equate to 2000 rpm.
Would take a long time for a payoff---120,000+ miles?
If your truck is 2wd, you would be looking at less time for a payoff. Mine is a 4x4.
