steering popping noise

Forgive me if this topic has been discussed. I did a search but no luck. My 01 2500 ctd 4x4 has developed a "popping noise" that is audible in the cab when I steer right or left. I can feel it also. Over the course of about 1000 miles I could also feel the steering getting looser and looser. I took it to the local dealer and they fixed the loose sttering issue by retightening some bolts etc.. but could not diagnose the popping sound. I think the two problems are related but dealer says he doesn't think so. Anbody ever have or hear about this problem ? Thanks in advance.

Check the pasenger's side track bar connection. Get under ther truck and watch it while someone moves the steering wheel back and forth. You can see it move if it is loose.

Check the frame side of the track bar. Chances are it's loose. Mine's doing the same thing and it's the skyjacker drop bracket for the skyjacker.

check the bolts on the axle locating arms to see if any are broke, my popping noise was a bolt on the axle end of the arm where the alignment adjustment is,use to wrenches one on head the other on nut, my broken bolt looked fine until i tried to tighten it, it was broke inside of bushing, might also want to check the bushings while you are there, i had one loose pounding around inside of the locating arm....

Check the Intermediate steering shaft for play. Too much lash in the slip joint will also cause a 'pop'

I had to replace both top ball joints to get rid of my pop.
