Cardan Grease fitting

I decided to post these because I was under my truck today with my Kodak Sport in my shirt pocket. To those who don't need this information, pardon my excess.

To those who do...have faith. It is in there and this is what it looks like when cleaned up. Use a "0" Phillips-head screw driver and a shot or two of brake cleaner to blast out the gunk and dirt and then have at it with a grease gun.

Note" an air-driven gun works best otherwise you need three hands to do this little snot. (The skid plate has been removed - if you have one, get it off first or this is a hopeless effort)

I found mine the first time after turning the DS probably 100 times
I marked it with a paint pen and now get it real easy.

The fitting is called a "flush" fitting and needs a special grease gun adapter that is pushed against the fitting to seal so you need one hand for that and one to operate the gun. This means you need a manual or air pistol type gun that you can operate with one hand.

See the post below and check the middle picture to see the one I bought. :

I still don't know how much if any grease is actually going into the fitting even when I'm using an air operated grease gun and pressing the tapered end into the fitting's grease point extremely hard. I never got the hypo type needle, (.065 dia. ), on the right to go in the hole without bending it.

That is the correct style to use on that kind of fitting (the one in the package) There are dozens of different configurations but they all have the exact same end on them that mates to the "flush" grease fitting. You do not use the one on the right that inserts inside the fitting. All that one will do is depress the ball allowing dirt in and because it's does not seal to the fitting, allowing grease out. Although I have an air operated gun I mostly use a good quality manual pistol grip for a better feel.
