Broken Tie Rod

Well it finally happened; My driver's side tie rod ball stud broke yesterday.
Thank goodness it snapped while I was very slowly backing into a parking space in downtown San Francisco, and not on the highway where I'd been cruising along at 70MPH just 5 minutes before. Also, I frequently tow and/or haul a truck camper so I feel incredibly fortunate that this happened when and where it did.

I did have the Mopar steering upgrade installed several years ago under the H46 recall campaign, but I was stupid and I ignored the N62 recall thinking that the problem wouldn't happen to me Lesson learned!

My local Ram Truck dealer had the N62 recall parts in stock and I should have my truck back tomorrow.

If you drive an '03-'08 Ram and you haven't gotten this recall taken care of, consider this to be your friendly reminder.
Cheers,
-Mark

I replaced my driver's side tre with Thuren's heim conversion years ago.

Thuren Dodge Ram 2500/3500 2008.5+ Driver Side TRE Conversion
I just didn't trust the newer part either.

Thanx Danderson!!!
THAT is the solution I was hoping for. I'll give Don a call and get one ordered up ASAP.

No tax through him or Strapt Performance. Looks like about $15 shipping to you from Strapt. I'm five miles from the ocean here and zero corrosion to date.
My wife and I were 50 miles offroad in Utah years ago and the thought of that joint snapping was ever present on my mind. I didn't inform her of the issues until we got back home. "Buy it" she said.

I just placed the order directly with Aaron at Thuren. I should have the TRE on Saturday and I'll be back in the hunt :-)

Mark,

Did the recall parts take it back to the stock "Y" type set-up or did it replace the end only?

The N62 recall replaces the whole tie rod... passenger & driver's side.

The Thuren TRE arrived today, I'll install it tomorrow.

Don uses a high quality heim and said it should last a long time.
