Broken ring ?

I have posted about oil usuage. It has slowed quite a bit since going back to Syn and a bottle of snake oil.(8 quarts in 2-3k down to 2q over 3k and I think part of that 2q is old oil 15-40 still burning out, meaning that 3/4 of a quart that hides in there during a change) If I did have a broken. would there be a strange sound or tons of smoke like a gasser?

and your crank breather would look like an old steam engine with all the blowby.

That's blow by out the crank breather. I would also think that there would be some fuel in the oil too.

Yeah thats NOT my truck. I just warmed it up and took the oil filler cap off. i had to put a flashlight to it to see any smoke at all. With the flash light there was some evidence of smoke. But not much at all. So I am thinking its not blow by, its not leaking, And its not smoking that much out of the tail pipes.

It runs perfect and has tons of power. Am I looking at a bad injector down the road maybe? or a valve adjustment? Or seals and gaskets. Or do I just have what cummins calls a truck with acceptable oil useage and I should live with it

MPG hasnt changed at all

Unless it gets worse I am thinking buying 4 gallons of oil every change is needed

Just a couple of dumb question! You do use the block heater? You do warm the engine up before plowing or highway driving, right?

If you have a broken ring your gonna know it.. Doesn't sound like a bad injector. Generally you "make oil" with those. I burn close to a quart of oil every 3-4,000 miles. Never really thought much of it.

Maybe a crank seal leak?

No block heater and yeah I let it run for a min or so on high idle before I leave. I live about a 10 min drive from the highway and only a min from my work to the highway but i let idle for at least 10 mins before I leave work with it.

Oh yeah its warm before I plow with it. Hell thats a 7 min drive to the lot. And i let warm for a min or so before I leave with it. And its past 140 by the time i get to bridge and fully warmed up by the lot. And I plow with the storm. I dont jump in and push heavy stuff

Give the block heater a try. You really need to let the engine get near 140F before hitting the highway, normal op temp is 190ish.

Its always over 140 when I hit the highway. My truck is warmed up 3-4 miles down the road. And at work I stop my truck at it and put my stuff in it before parking my tractor. So it has run about 10-15 mins and has heat blowing because its set in high idle. as for where I live I have no power in garage parking space
